Davis Camp and Ophir Creek Trail - June 2019

Davis Camp is just south of Reno, Nevada. Its a great staging campground for day hikes and even overnight stay's into the Tahoe basin. The Ophir Creek trail is a in and out or even a loop trail approximately 9 miles and over 2,500 ft in elevation from Davis Camp trail head.

Don’t Follow This Route!

The trail head is the green dot, just outside of Davis Camp. Normally, this trail is and out and back style but there appeared to be a loop option and we decided on that. NOPE…not a real defined trail at all from Price Lake back to the main trail! You can see some back and forth on the GPS recording as we struggled to find the trail that would link back near the junction. We were at about 2,300 feet when we decided to take the “trail” and most was scrambling down the mountain and looking for a broken and overgrown trail. One of our primary concerns once we had gone too far to turn back was the possibility of having to cross a water way. Of course, we had too so after about 10 minutes of searching, we found a more narrow part of the rapids and just went for for it. Heather went full in shoes and all but I had an injury on the back left heel of my foot so I decided not to have wet boots after the crossing and went barefoot. Glad I did. I hate wet boots!

The Beauty of Nevada

Driving towards Davis Camp and enjoying the view of Mt Rose Ski Resort on the way. The camp is behind the south face of the hill has it’s own awesome trails. We do plan on hiking Mt Rose soon, once the snow melt allows for safer passage.

Money At Steak

Purchased this corn-hole set for our camping trips that would accommodate the game and not be disruptive to others and this spot is perfect for it. We played 3 games and the first person to sink 6 bags into to hole wins. We bet a filet mignon dinner on game 1, in which Heather destroyed me. Game 2 was for a bottle of red win valued at $45 and game 3 was for a bottle of Veuve Clicquot . I won both games 2 and 3 so Heather provided the libations. We had a lovely dinner that Sunday!

Washoe Lake

Here we are at the apex of this trail overlooking Washoe City, which is between Carson City and Reno. The weather was perfect for elevation hikes. Not too hot nor too chilly. Notice my cool new backpack that is a cooler inside. We took up some sandwiches and cold drinks and it worked wonderfully.

Sunday Night Dinner - Post Hike

Heather decided on a bottle of Stags Leap cab and of course the Vuve. I bought a pair of 10oz filet mignon and we could barely finish the meal! Totally worth it and we found it is fun to make friendly wagers with each other to our mutual benefit :-)
