Opportunity called and my sense of adventure overwrote my common sense. I packed everything I owned into a 5x7 trailer and set out from Sacramento, CA to Anchorage, AK. I drove over 3,500 miles alone. Crazy.
These are photos from the road and my first week in Anchorage...
Canada
Actually…I have no idea where in Canada I took this photo. Cell service was dead and I never checked the map. Whoops
Canada
Again, no idea where I am in Canada…seemed to be a common theme on this trip.
Anchorage Trail
Not the road to Alaska but once I got there, one of my first experiences on the Anchorage Trail
Anchorage Coastal Trail
I miss my long walks and audio books on this path…
Wolverine Peak
One of my first big hikes in Alaska. I am an idiot for doing that alone.
Anchorage Coast
Right our of Kinkade Park
Kinkade Park
Look! Rocks! What you can not tell, is that this was not soft snow, it was jagged sharp ice crystals that were quite nasty. Yay, Alaska!
Kincade Beach
Look! Bigger more artistically interesting rocks!
Eagle River
Dew Mound Trail spruce…lovely. This is also where I had my first encounter with a pissy moose who was none to please I was on the trail. She backed off and I am still here.
Dew Mound Trail
Deep snow, long hike and alone in the cold. Looking back, wonder how I did not get frostbite
Eagle River
Ice flow on the river. I’m standing on a large thick drift…totally safe.
Yukon Territory
Yukon Territory road that was burned out by a forest fire.
Matanuska Glacier
First time I have ever seen a glacier…took this picture just hours after crossing the Alaskan boarder from Canada.
Lonely trails
Just me and my trusty jeep. To this day, everything I own fits into a 5x7 space. Listening to Celine Dion’s “All By My Self” on repeat.
Canada
Canada has some of the most picturesque landscapes.
