Island Lakes in the Desolation Wilderness has become a favorite spot for us. Not only is the hike beautifully scenic, the elevation and no fire policies make for a filter that keeps morons out of the space and the new permit system is a blessing. We have only done the Island Lake trip once and can tell you, it is one of the most scenic hikes we have been on in Desolation. It was really fun and had quite a bit of verity.
Why not? The hike up was not that difficult for us so we decided to explore around the lake. Totally worth it except for the major sunburn we both got from the snow glare. Lesson learned.
